Pieces

In a fit of rage, a ten year old child kills his Mother with an axe. As an adult he decides to recreate his Mother, so he targets young women at a college campus, killing them with a chainsaw, collecting pieces and stitching them back to together. Hoping to once again bring his Mother back into his life.

This film is considered by horror fans to be one of the greater slasher films of the 1980's. It has been praised, by Eli Roth, as having one of the greatest endings in horror history. So what do I think about it?

First of all the special effects were good ol'fashioned old school effects. You won't find any bullshit CGI in this film. Don't get me wrong, I understand the purpose of CGI, it gives the audience an environment or an effect that may have not been obtainable otherwise. But if you ask an old school horror fan, they will always agree that nothing quite beats an old school special effect!

Overall the chainsaw-violent kills were gory and extremely well done for their time. The characters were all interesting enough that you continued to wonder who the killer really was, the killer wasn't obvious in a "Return to Sleepaway Camp" kind of way.

The film gives the nude hounds more than their ample share of nudity. Their is even a splash of darkly lit male nudity for the male nudity fans

The raved about ending is something that still puzzles me, even after watching the film more than once, I can still find no logic in the films ending. It was shocking and unexpected, but still didn't make any sense to me. If someone is capable of explaining to me the meaning behind the ending, I would be more than willing to listen.

Overall I rate this film 3.5 out of 5 stars. The more I watch it, the more it grows on me, but I still can't find the meaning behind the ending. Maybe it's not suppose to have meaning.

  1. I LOVE this movie!!! :-)

I think that you are looking to deeply into a meaning behind the ending - I don't think there is a meaning behind it, just like there was no meaning behind the "out of the blue" Kung-Fu scene - just a WHAT?!? kind of moment!

    Nice Review!
